Henfield House

Over the years Henfield House has had several extensions added onto the original late 19th Century cottage.  Externally these additions have been sympathetically detailed however internally the wonderfully spacious plan lacks flow and organisation.

My client and their  family  love their new home and are keen to breathe new life and personality into it.

Whilst surveying the ground floor,  I was able to discuss  with my client their vision for the renovation.  Due to the large floor plate, there were so many different solutions that could be looked at which ranged from just the smallest tweaks to a significant overhaul.  My client was keen not to further extend the property but just to make better use of the available space.  The heart of the ground floor is dim, so we did discuss several options which looked at removing small elements of the existing exterior walls to help the space benefit from more available light.   With budget being a driving force a combination of all the options was then developed in more detail, with a block form model built to help visualise the space in 3D.

The current layout had a small kitchen split from the rest of the living spaces.  Fundamentally my client wanted the kitchen to become the heart of the space.  With a large extended family, this was to be the home where everyone could gather for big occasions.  My client also wanted to better utilise the over generous hallway space which is 40sqm.  By moving the entrance of the house to a more central location and creating a beautiful grand square entrance hall with one of the original fireplaces, this freed up space for an additional bedroom with its own entrance off of the hallway.

A  scope of works drawing was developed highlighting all the amendments.  The drawings are currently being costed and once my client has more of an idea of the cost for the builders works the detailed design for the rooms can begin.
